Cudi vs. Drake

 vs.

I feel like this is a pretty big debate right now or maybe it just seems like that because I've had this debate with about 3 of my friends recently. They both can sing, rap, freestyle, and act. Basically they're the whole package or what a whole package should be.
I thought it was interesting because apparently there was a rumor going around that there was beef between the two of them, but I'm pretty sure I didn't hear anything of that nature. If you did Cudi cleared it all out on his blog.
Which one do you prefer? I kinda lean towards Cudi just because his tracks are more about weird stuff then just relationships.

Another Cudi Remix

I feel like I've become a personal blogger for Cudi and Kanye recently...sorry. I'm just a big lover of them. Anyways...Kid Cudi came out with a remix of "Respect My Conglomerate." Enjoy by clicking here.

Song of the Day: "End Of the Road"

It's throw back time! If you don't like or even remember Boyz II Men I don't think we can be friends. "End of the Road" is just an epic song that kinda makes me laugh. The very beginning of the song kinda hurts my ears but then you get to their harmonies and everything negative floats away.
But I actually picked the song because its the end of the road for school...ahh I have two big things due tomorrow. So everyone that reads this that has finals as well...good luck and bust it out!
In the mean time enjoy the sexy voices of Boyz II Men..haha (like around 3:52).

Why Kanye is Great

More Reasons to Love Kanye

I love when people are actually grateful.

Song of the Day: "Cartunes"

Have you heard of the Children of the Night? They're pretty good. I thought I'd pick this song because it feels like a Saturday to me since I don't have class...Finals Week!!! ahhh save my soul.
But this song reminisces about the days when cartoons were actually good on Saturday mornings. So if you like cartoons this may be your new theme song.

"The Cure"

Technology has failed me this past week, but I think I may have found "The Cure." haha That was cheesy..but seriously I stumbled upon this artist who calls himself "The Cure." His actual name is Jaiden and his voice is eargasmic. I did a little reading on him and he has five and half octave range...that's pretty much amazing if you don't know.
He is a r&b singer who according to his myspace and imeem profiles, has worked with or toured with  Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, Beyonce, John Legend, Jay-Z, and the list goes on with amazing names.
At times he reminds me of John Legend, and then you listen to his remix of "Whatever You Like" and he sounds like T-Pain because of the auto-tune, but mostly he sounds like something I heard of before. This little blurb is on his imeem...and I think it's pretty creative/great:
Cure [verb] 1. relieve (the music industry) of the symptoms of a disease or condition. 2. eliminate (a disease, or condition). 3. solve (a problem or condition). Good music is the CURE to the music industry woes. Jaiden is a proven writer, producer, and singer that has consistently delivered good music to serve as the "Soundtrack of our lives." Take a listen and let us know if you agree.
Check him out on  myspace, imeem, or you can even follow him on twitter

He's Back!

Maxwell was one of those neo-soul hotties in the late '90s and now he's back. He's shed his sexy vibe, well the commercialized version of hot, and is delivering beautiful music again. Here's his first single "Pretty Wings"from his new album "Black Summer's Night."

The New Royales

I was blog surfing...do you call it that? and found this band/group, The New Royales. I first saw this video and thought it was a lil trippy, but the sound grew on me.

They're labeled as pop/rock/hip hop on their myspace...those combos always seem weird to me, but I think it actually works for them. I was pretty impressed when I read this:
Dr. Dre calls them the new crack. Busta Rhymes calls them the new movement. Not only are these legends fans, they are part of the Royale family. With Dre lending his production skills to a song called, Spend It On Me, and Busta dropping a verse on a joint called, Sorry.

But anyway..check out their page.

Song of the Day: "Boyfriend #2"

I'm not supporting this song/ saying I like this song, but I chose it so you could have a little humor in your day. This song is complete ridiculousness. I laugh every time I hear it. So I thought I'd give you a little breakdown of the thoughts that go through my mind when I listen to this song by Pleasure P. (Push play now and you can read along with the song haha)

So it starts all nice with the piano and then whammy you get the lil'wayne "Ya digg" and it gets freaky. I mean it's not that big of a surprise..his name does have the word pleasure in it.
So then you get the graphic details...well not really graphic, but i'm pretty sure if i were younger and my mom heard this on the radio she would change the channel.
Thenn "I'll go get the camera"....wooooow. He's a freak.
You think it's all good and then you remember the title of the song "Boyfriend #2" And then I'm like who has a boyfriend #2? I guess there are some girls out there that have them, but I don't support that. And if you're a boyfriend #2 that completely sucks for you...definitely agree with the lyrics "cause second place always gotta whole lot to prove."
And then this sexy voice comes out of left field ... "Just Call." I think that's the best part of the whole song because I can't take sexy voices seriously.haha
Then back to details...blah blah blah
"Don't fuss, don't fight, don't argue" baby!!!
Ohhh and then you gotta get the listener participation. Let's show the world all the ladies who have a buddy on the side....but I'm pretty sure you're not a lady if you're sleeping around with 2 or more guys. Just gonna throw that out there, you can throw it right back if you want. And the use of "buddy." Really? Is he just trying to justify it by using a term buddy cause you can never get serious with a buddy.
"So whenever you're in the mood just call.." I'm thinking bf #2 may be a little needy. Why can't you find some other girl to pleasure if you like doing it so much? huh huh??? Cause you're definitely not #1 and you will most likely never be #1.(That kinda reminds me of "My Best Friend's Wedding" where Julia Roberts tells Cameron Diaz she will never be jello..haha)
If a girl says you're #2, she's just using you as a fall back, and personally who wants to be that? Have a little respect for yourself. You shouldn't have to prove yourself.
THE END

What's the Fascination With Lady GaGa

I've been pondering this question for awhile now and still don't understand the fascination of Lady GaGa. Her songs sound the same, I've heard people call her a "butter face" (everything's good but her face), she dresses insanely, the remixes to her songs ("I Poker Her Face") are bigger hits then the originals, the songs she's featured in are bigger hits then hers, and the list goes on.
I posed this question to Meezy (check out swaggerdap.blogspot.com) and he said something along the lines of that she's a bisexual freak?!?! This may sound appealing to some, but c'mon people. Can I get some true talent and not just someone with talent in bed?
I'm not gonna lie and say I don't enjoy dancing around to "Just Dance," but even that gets annoying after your neighbors play it on repeat and singing it with their high-pitched foreign accents. I just want quality music. Is that too much to ask for? I think not!
Take a second and listen to her songs and get back to me....I really want (an) answer(s) to this question. (I can't even load her songs because I don't take the time to download her stuff..but i have some  remixes)

Different Take on "Amazin'"

A softer version of "Amazin'" I kinda like it. Do you think Mike Mavin killed it or what?

Songs of the Day: Dedication to the Sun

Have you ever noticed that people are way happier when it's sunny? well until it gets mad hot and you feel gross when you step outside your home...ughh I hate that. Enjoy a couple songs about the sun and sunshine!

Preview Of a New Ryan Leslie Song

So I love Ryan Leslie and this video just makes me love him even more. Enjoy!

Floetry is Pure Poetry

Wale was tweeting about Floetry earlier today. I don't know if it was about these two, but I remembered this specific poem/song. It's so sensual. You can only hope that one day someone will write something like this about you....maybe. It's called "Fantasize." Thanks to Ghislaine for telling me about this a long time ago.

"Choose Life"

Hal Linton is killin' it in the studio.  I love this song. Listen close to the lyrics and you will too.

Songs of the Day: "Skinny Love" and "Jigsaw Falling Into Place"

I chose "Skinny Love" because Bon Iver is just beautiful. I love good guitar music. Also if you remember Caleb has a cover of this on youtube. If you go back to the past post about him you can watch it.

Since I'm going to be in the library all day, I choose some good study music. Radiohead is just right, it doesn't distract you too much, but it still can keep you awake. And I just hope everything falls into place for my work..ahh finals are coming.

Lil' Wayne on The View...hmmm

Are You High o r Are They High?

Since I'm trying to branch out again from too much hip-hop, I thought I'd introduce you to some special music. I say special because they had to have been on something while making it or you feel like you're high because you're listening to it. And I don't mean that "high on life" kinda thing.
The first band is Animal Collective. They're pretty tame, but listen to their song "Unsolved Mysteries" and you'll think you're going around in a haunted carousel. It kind of reminds me of something that would have been in the movie "Across the Universe." www.myspace.com/animalcollectivetheband
The other band is The Bug. He is based in London and I don't even know what you'd call his music. I was just thrown off. It's a cacophony of sounds with some language I've never heard. Check it out.haha www.myspace.com/thebuguk

Song of the Day: " Millions of Peaches"

Since I bruise like a peach and have a fresh new batch of bruises, I thought I'd choose this throw back for the song of the day. I remember singing this song all the time when it came out.

Song of the day: "Weekend Jumpoff"

TGIF!!! Today is beautiful besides the fact I didn't get the Atlantic Records internship. I'm just hoping something better is coming my way.
Anyway...The song of the day is "Weekend Jumpoff" by Kevin Michael. Have you heard of him? I doubt it since I only know one other person who has heard of him. If I'm wrong let me know.I first heard like 2 years ago...well that's how it seems anyway. He's had collaborations with Lupe and Wyclef and performed at Lollapalooza, but I haven't heard him bust through mainstream.
Check him out. www.kevinmichael.com He has an old vibe, but with a new twist. Have a great weekend!

Amazing

You've probably seen the stills for the video, so here's the actual video for you with the interview on 106 & Park.  Definitely shows Hawaii's beauty.

Kid Cudi News

They've announced that Kid Cudi's album, "Man On the Moon: The Guardians," is going to be dropped on Aug. 25th. It's been reported that he has been in the studio with  will.i.am, Ryan Leaslie, Travis Barker, Swizz Beatz , and more very talented artists. He has said on his blog that this cd is something that we've never heard of before so I'm excited.
I also read that he will be performing at Lollapalooza, which is Aug. 7-9. If you've never gone, you definitely should. It's a lifetime experience that you'll never forget. I'm so happy I live a roadtrip away from Chicago.

I love Rolling Stone

I dove into my latest issue of Rolling Stone and was elated with the content. If you've already read this issue you might as well skip this post because I'm going to give you a run down of the wonderfulness I found. 1. This isn't music related, but they had a great feature story about Hulk Hogan.
2. For all you pirates out there, beware! There's this thing out there called Web Sheriff.  They only have a staff of 20, according to the article, and they are hired by artists to search for their content online. The article mentions 3 big groups: Animal Collective, Van Morrison, and Prince. So if you have any content like photos, interviews, etc the sheriff may be contacting you. I tried to find their other clients but I couldn't. Here's what they offer:
3. There is a bill being proposed to stop scalping concert tickets. New York Senator Charles Schumer wants true fans to be able to have the chance of buying tickets for the best seats...no more scalpers please.
4. The ad for Bonnaroo caught my eye. Who wants to go? I'm saying we go on a road trip to TN. Some performers:
- janelle monae, rodrigo y gabriela, girl talk, erykah badu, beastie boys, snoop, vieux farka toure, raphael saadiq
I'm so excited!
5. The "From the Vault" section kinda scares me because it's from 1994 and I remember every song. Does that mean I'm getting old.

Go out and get the issue. It's great!

Ouch.

Found on BBC Blog

New Chris Brown? : Young Steff

I just read about a "New Chris Brown." haha Thanks to Vibe's editor-in-chief's tweets..she's introduced me to Young Steff. I think they're doing a vibe session with him right now.
He definitely sounds similar and dances similar to Chris Brown, so lets just hope he doesn't come with the drama too.
I went to his website and it's actually really good, especially for someone who isn't that big right now. I'm impressed. It says that his album will be available in 2009, so I dunno what that really means since it is 2009.
His single "Slow Jukin" is the featured video on his site, but his single "Professional" is a little more intriguing to me. It features Maino and it sounds like there's steel drums...love it. Here's the video, but check out his website too. http://www.youngsteffworld.com/

The Drake Bandwagon

I've been reading around the blogs and listening to my friends talk about Drake and I found something interesting. There was this whole conversation of people saying they love Drake, but they only know his new songs and they only love him because he's hot right now. I understand the whole thing about "now fans" (I coin this phrase from now on). You can't just say you love the person because he/she is the shit now. Don't just disregard him after the next guy comes around. You have to stay with him through his whole career. It's like loving a sports team, you can just like them when they're on a winning streak. Plus he's a pretty good lyricist.
So with that being said, I've included a link to datpiff.com . You can check out Drake's earlier mixtapes. He also released a newer one with Lil Wayne, but I couldn't find it so go search.

Song of the Day: "Earth Song"

In honor of it being Earth Day today, today's song is "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson. I think a great little throw back to when he wasn't such a creeper. It's a pretty long song, but listen to it and appreciate the earth...haha

Song of the Day: "Fight For Your Right"

Since it is Mayfest I thought it was only appropriate to have a song about partying. Everyone have fun and be safe. Don't go walking on the sidewalks with open drinks..haha like that's not gonna happen. "Fight for your right to party!!"

The Review: "Love the Future"

You may be wondering why a post so late/early, but too many activities went down this afternoon and tomorrow is going to be crazy due to no school for MAYFEST. So here goes.
This is from the official email I got from the guys (I have VIP status..haha along with many others I can only assume.)

"We began working on this record when we were nineteen years old and had just finished our freshman year of college. D.A. was squatting in our friend Ko's summer dorm housing and Max would drive to campus each morning so that we could spend the day performing on the street. In our downtime and at night, we started writing the songs for "Love the Future."

Four years, countless all-nighters, tens of sleepovers at each others' parents' houses, thousands of dollars of our own money, three record deal offers, two diplomas, a year in L.A., unspeakable amounts of other peoples' money, six tours, and a few girlfriends later - it's done. We have agonized over every detail of this album, from the tiniest sonic nuance to the beautiful packaging that Francesco Carrozzini and Nick Dart helped us realize, and we're very proud to present it to you."

You can tell that the guys of Chester French did work hard on this album. The production and musicology is different than what I've ever heard of. It's not your typical synthesized beats that you hear so often these days. There are complex layers of sounds that mesh really well. And there's a variety of these meshes throughout the whole cd. At one point in a song it's all happy and then the next it can have a deep darker tone...it's pretty genius if you ask me.

The cd. is a lot different from their mixtape, so just beware of that. They do include "Jimmy Choos" and "She Loves Everybody" on the cd but the other songs' sounds are more chill, darker and softer. I guess when you're talking about love, things do tend to get a little soft.

I did a little run through of some songs. Not too detailed but I just jotted down notes while i was listening/ studying for my test on wed (who gives a test on the day after mayfest?).

*intro- spanish or some other language i've heard (bad that i can't pin point)? por que?

*Cmon- sound a lot like mixtape songs.

*Bebee Buell-- more hard beginning but the addition of repeated keyboard chords softens it a lil. " This ain't groupie love. you mean more to me."

*Fingers--pretty hilarious.  white boy plainly and clearly saying "you're so fresh. you're fresh to death.. but you've turned your tricks made such a mess"

*Country interlude- debbie downer much?then around 2:40 it's sounds like a kids wooden xylophone so it's more playful but still had a dark tone. throw in "live between her thighs" ...new favorite line for singers? hmm this long ass song kinda sounds like a song my sister would make me listen to.

*Beneath the veil---lil johnny cash-ish. like the little tap dancish sound in it...did they read my review with josh and how he wanted to use that in his music? ha

*Neal- more upbeat. keyboard sounds like stevie back in the day. The repeated line of  "get a girlfriend and take her to the zoo" is just great to me.

*Not over you-some parts of the beat remind me of video game sounds. "i try to do what i got a do but i'm not over you i try to say what i gotta say but im not thru"...gun shot at 3:20...lil dramatic...no?

*Sleep-haha weird voices within in last 45 secs. if high that would freak you out.

So there's my break down. Go out and buy it! It's a good listen.

It Dropped

I just got my download for the Chester French CD. woo. Review to come.

Monday, April 20, 2009

Oh the Anticipation & Reward

So I'm pretty pumped about 2.5  things.

1. I pre-ordered my Chester French cd so I'm getting that download when it hits the 22nd. I hope you guys ordered yours too. OH and if you got that email, anyone want to sign up for the safari or slumber party with me? haha

2.  Kid Cudi released a track, "Daps and Pounds," that, if I'm understanding right, will be on his cd when it drops this summer. Go here to get it...but if you go to the link below you don't have to.
And he dropped another mixtape "Dat Kid from Cleveland." It basically has all the tracks everyone has heard and then some new stuff. go here to download it.

Song of the Day: "Burn One Down"

For all the potheads today's song is for you. I'm going to throw back to good old Ben Harper and his song "Burn One Down." I personally like the drums and harper's voice, but some may like it because of the lyrics. "If you don't like my fire then don't come around. cause i'm gonna burn one down."

Twitter Fascination

Twitter is so addictive and spreading everywhere. It's even crept into the music world. I just have to laugh at this song, but its lyrics are sooo true. Way to go Mistah F.A.B for describing twitter so well. I hope I hear people singing this so I can continue to smile all day long.
Go here to listen/download.
*Addition: My brother commented that Ingrid Michaelson had a twitter song too and she definitely does. Hers is more playful but it's not even one minute long. Enjoy.

Another Video: "Part of the List"

This is Ne-yo's 5th single of his newest album and I think it in the top 5 of songs of the album for me. The video is great and definitely shows the emotion of what the song is about. Gotta love Ne-Yo.

New Video: Boom Boom Pow

Is it just me or are videos getting weirder and a lil creepy at points? I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but I just want to know where people get these ideas.
Here's the video for the Black Eyed Peas newer song "Boom Boom Pow." I know I enjoy getting ready to it.

Tennille

You guys probably know that I love Jade, so I went searching for music that she followed and I saw Tennille. She hangs out with the Cool Kids and she's labeled as a r&b, hip hop, and fusion . I don't think I've ever really heard of fusion before, but I like it. Her sound is playful and relaxed. The part that I like the most is that she combines chill rap with singing in the background. At sometimes she reminds me of M.I.A.The songs are mostly done with synthesizers...at least that's what it sounds like to me.  She only has three songs up on her myspace and I like them all.
*Lac Strollin: It's playful and just chill. The little "da da da" in the beginning with the added layer of "ahhs"is just pleasant to hear for me. I can picture myself driving in the car in the summer and blasting this. I really like how she emphasizes the lyrics by singing the end of the phrases legato-ish with a hint of staccato-ish ness.(haha i love making words up.) You'll understand it when you listen to it.
*Ass Made of Diamonds: The one starts off a lil bit more hip-hop, but it's still a little soft. The title kind of makes me laugh, and it makes it hard for me to take this song seriously, but some how she pulls it off.
*Alright Ok: The beginning kind of reminds me of "sensual seduction."I think that's what was kinda going for too.ha

Drake @ Purchase

Drake is becoming big. Remember I told you about him in February.. haha. Anyway, he had a concert at SUNY Purchase last night and my friend Josh who was there (Caleb...who was also featured here) tweeted that  "Drake was whack." I looked up the concert on youtube and wasn't impressed either. I still love his songs, but he may need some work on his performing skills. I understand that you probably like hearing your fans sing your songs, but they didn't come and pay to hear themselves sing. Good performer or no? you tell me.

Song of the Day: "It's Over"

I'm a big lover of John Legend and then he threw in Kanye and it was a match made in heaven for my little ears. Not the most cheery song, but there are many things that are over for me right now so I thought I'd pick for today. I love Kanye's verse...sooo good with a little bit of humor. "We lost the four leaf clover."

Friday, April 17, 2009

Song of the Day: "Knock You Down"

I've listened to this song so many times today and then when I was running I heard a couple cars blasting it too. Ne-yo's voice is smooth like always, Keri's voice is impressive (her range is good), and Kanye's verse is killer. ha.

New Stuff for the G.o.o.d Crew

So much stuff has happened for  g.o.o.d. these past couple days. Here's the list:
1. Kid Cudi was officially signed to Universal Motown records.

2. Kanye has a new ad campaign with LV featuring Amber. You can click here to see more.

3. Big Sean dropped his much anticipated mixtape. It has a lot of tracks but it's pretty good. Click here if you want it.

James Morrison

I'm not talking about Jimi Morrison for all of you rock lovers, it's James Morrison. I first heard him in 2006 and fell in love with his bluesy voice. He's from the UK, so I don't think a lot of people know about him, but you could've hear his music in Starbucks here in the US. Since he's pretty bluesy his songs are kind of depressing, but they're so beautifully written and sung you can't help but listen and sing along. My personal favorites are "The Pieces Don't Fit Anymore," "Better Man," "Wonderful World," and "How Come." Kind of a lot, but his raspy voice draws me in.
Check him out at his website www.jamesmorrisonmusic.com

Great Interview: LeVar Thomas

I just want to thank all those new social networking sites because without them I would have never found LeVar Thomas. Some interviewers label him as a southern crooner or a southern gentleman, but honestly why focus on these when his music is so good. Let's focus on his love for music and why he hasn't been signed yet. This man has been working hard on his dream of being a singer on and off for 17 years. You may ask why, but just listen to his music and you'll find out. His voice is soothing, smooth, soulful, and his lyrics actually mean something. He's not just your entertainer like most "singers" out there. He actually has God-given talent. So let's take a look into his view on things.

How's your day going?

My day’s going well.  Thanks for taking the time to interview me.

You've been involved in music you're whole life, from church choir, to school choirs and a solo career in Atlanta and now in NY. Where did you get the best music experience? Where did you learn the most?

I learned the most in church choir.  I learned to solo better because if the feeling was right, you’d have to ad lib another verse to keep the feeling going.  I also learned harmonies and vocal blending singing with the rest of the choir.Atlanta would be my best musical experience. I’ve learned a lot in NYC about the business side of the industry but I found myself as an artist in Atlanta.  I performed solo and on stage with friends, laid down my first tracks and started to gain a fanbase.
If you could be signed under any label what would it be and why?

I would love to be signed with Motown/Universal.  Motown has always been a stand up label and has represented some of the most prolific artists.  They also seem to let the artist be who they are and continue to develop.  Beside’s what other label can be classified as it’s own genre. But I’m open!
You're definitely a soul singer. What draws you to this genre?

Has to be my upbringing.  I think my voice lends itself to soul and I was born in a family who loves Soul and Gospel genres. I love and listen to a lot of it too.  My best memories were with the whole family at a cook out with the music blaring some Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Whitney Houston and Levert.
What other genres do you enjoy listening to and what ones would you never listen to?
I dig Rock and Pop genres too.  I listen to Linkin Park and artists like Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Cyndi Lauper and even some Pink Floyd.  I can honestly say my ears have not embraced Metal music though. LOL.
What are your favorite 5 songs right now?
Most of the time I’m listening to old school but my favorite songs in rotation now are.
Lions And Tigers & Bears - Jazmine Sullivan
Turning Me On By ft. Lil Wayne – Keri Hilson
She Loves Everybody – Chester French
Rockin That Thang – The-Dream
Love, Sex and Magic ft. JT – Ciara
What is your favorite song that you've written and why?

That’s a tough choice for me. I feel that I grow from song to song.  I hold "Ain’t So Bad" and "Missing You" close.  "Ain’t So Bad" was the fist song I wrote that I could envision spinning on the radio. "Missing You" is a fan favorite and I wrote it from a sincere place and so many people seem to connect with it.
If you could improve your music in any way how would you do so or are you a perfectionist and everything is right for you?...not saying that you need to at all because it's beautiful.

There is always something else I would like to add or take away after I’ve recorded a song.  I’ve been recording and mixing my own songs and I want to be better at mixing. My technique is to record a lot then edit. In the end I’m pretty satisfied with the songs or I don’t release them.
I've seen that you're a big Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder fan. Do you think any artists out there today are influential to your music like them or on any level?

There are several artists keeping it real.  Anthony Hamilton, Erykah Badu, Raheem DeVaughn and Jazmine Sullivan to name a few who are reminiscent of classic soul artists.
I’m inspired by artists like them because they sing songs that are not the status quo and do well in an industry where R&B is losing it’s soulful element.
You write, record, and mix all your own songs right? If so can you go through the process of how you make a song? Do you lay down a beat first or do you focus on the lyrics first?

I write and record my songs but I work with producers worldwide on the beats.  I’ve worked with producers in the U.S.,Germany, Sweden and Canada. They’ll usually send beats they think might work for me and I vibe to the tracks in my headphones with my mic on.  A lot of times there’s an instant spark and other times, I have to vibe a little longer.  If I can vibe to the beat, I write or type out the lyrics and make sure they fit the melody by laying down a rough demo.  After I’ve finished that, I listen back, edit and then put my game face on to record the final vocal.  After recording I do some mixing in Protools and voila!  New music from LeVar Thomas!
For all the other aspiring singers, what outlet has been the best to help further your career: Myspace, Imeem, youtube, your website, etc..?

I’m fond of them all, I’ve made great friends on most of the networks I’m a part of.  I definitely have to give props to Myspace and Youtube.  Myspace  and Youtube were the first places I showcased my music. I was able to get back honest feedback from fans  going in-depth on how they related to my songs.  It was great! I’ve been active on Twitter for a short while but I look forward to tweeting daily.  You get to see how much you have in common with people, share new music and photos and get a feedback right away. It really helps you stay in the loop.  I encourage any other aspiring singers to take advantage of the networking sites.  You gotta be in the game to win it so you need some representation of yourself online.

I read that there was a debacle with your Myspace that I've never heard of happening before. Will you describe it again for these readers?

The debacle was actually at Youtube.  I had built up my vazwell account with original songs, I had some Editor’s Picks and Awards and around 18,000 subscribers.  I would invite as many people as I could within the daily limits.  Some of the users who subscribed complained of spam because when I’d release a new song, win a contest and different other milestones, I’d share.  I did get complaints from people about the amount of mail but I asked them to unsubscribe if they didn’t want news from me.  Some complained to Youtube and my account was cancelled for spamming.  I emailed to get the full story and asked to be reinstated but received no answer. I’ve started two new accounts since then.  Even longer story. My current account is www.youtube.com/LevarThomasMusic.
If you could do anything else in life what would you do?

Since I was old enough to pick a career for myself, it has been music and I hadn’t really thought much of anything else. Maybe a music teacher…lol. I don’t know.  Something that gives back to society.
How's the search for a publishing deal going?

It’s not going as expected but I’m living and learning.  When you ask successful people how they got ahead there is always one similarity.  Persistence! There’s always another way to get in and I’m searching all avenues.  I’m getting really good feedback from some insiders and producers I work with and I’m hopeful.  This economic crunch is taking a toll on all industries, music industry included.  Everyone is being careful and making it work with what they have.  The response from fans of my music, let me know that there’s a market for what I write.  Someone’s taking notice.
You've said that you wouldn't mind working with other artists if it meant having music in your life, so which artist would you most like to have sing your songs or work with?
I have songs in my catalog that I feel would work for lots of artists on the scene now.  I would be very happy if I could get Stevie Wonder, Anthony Hamilton or Beyonce on one of my tracks.
How did you land the deal with jamster and the ringtones?
I’ve been with Jamster/Jamba/Fox Mobile for 2 years now.  A friend of mine, Shane Breen, who’s been helping from the beginning emailed them. He asked what the submission process was.  I sent in a demo CD and they liked what they heard. They later asked me to sign a worldwide ringtone distribution deal.  I just renewed with them this month for another year! Yay!

I found you through soul-method on twitter. Can you describe your involvement with them?
Soul Method is a company I started a couple years ago.  I’m working on building it as a business with a few associates.  Two other songwriters, a producer, an internet guru and myself  are discussing possible ways to expand.
Is there anything else you are dying to let the world know about yourself right now?
I’m pretty much an open book. I recently got an iPhone 3G and my world is forever changed.  Now I can tweet on the run, in the studio, at lunch. Follow me on Twitter: @LeVarThomas

Hopefully this intrigued you a little bit to go find him in cyber-world. He seems pretty open to comments, interviews, and just a conversation (Hell, he agreed to do an interview with me). Check his website www.levarthomas.com out. He has past interviews posted, a guestbook, photos, and continuous music playing in the background. Let's get his name out there.

Thanks again for the interview LeVar!

Follow Up

Last night Mike Milan dropped a new track on illroots.com. I was pretty impressed. Check it out. It's called "Drop" and the beat is just like Kid Cudi's '09 Freestyle which is also good.
If want the Milan track go here.  If you want to listen to Kid Cudi's go here.

Freestyle Video

So I'm in the computer lab without headphones and I don't want to be annoying, but I figure this has to be good if it's Kanye, Common, and ERYKAH BADU. Where has she been?..other than on twitter.

Can't Get Enough

I can't get enough of Jade's EP. I've seriously listened to it about 5x on repeat today..kinda sad since it's only 2pm. I hope you guys have checked her out, like I suggested. She's a nice little refresher from hip hop, rap, dance music, etc. You can just sit and chill and appreciate her melodies. Here's her link again...seriously, check her out. www.myspace.com/jadeismusic

Song of the Day: "Up and Out" by Jade.

New Stuff

*Ryan Leslie has a new song out, "Gonna Let Luv This Luv." You may have heard the song in one of his youtube clips...well the instrumentals anyway.Click here.
*Cassie dropped a remix ft. Diddy and N.O.R.E, "Must Be Love Remix." Are they together? And I still can't get over her going Britney with her hair. I don't know if I really like the sound of cocking guns in the background...at least that what it sounds like to me. Click here

Songs of the Day

I have two completely different songs in my head right now, but the songs of the day are going to be "Pumpkin Soup" by Kate Nash and "Maybach Music II" with Rick Ross, T-Pain, Kanye, and Lil Wayne.
The latter is a ridiculous (in this context, great) collaboration with some of the best rappers.(yeah I said it). The hook is catchy, the instrumentals are great, and each verse has something rememberable.

"Pumpkin Soup" is just playful and makes me want to have a good day, which is always hard for mondays.

Singers With a Cause

Justin Timberlake, Kenna, and Lupe are going to be climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for a charity that brings awareness to the worldwide water crisis.
Kenna recruited the other two because his father almost died of waterborne diseases in Ethiopia as a child, so this adventure mean so much more for him.
I've been wondering what Lupe has been doing lately..now we know.
Good luck to you guys!

Remix

Clinton Sparks did a remix of Chester French's "She Loves Everybody." Now you can get pumped to go out with this song. woo! Click here.
