New Music Flying All Over The Place

Twitter is one of the easiest ways to find out about new music. If you don't have an account, I suggest you get one just so you can hear about everything.

This is what I saw today:

-New Song from Lupe (via Quddus): "Shining Down," is featuring Matthew Santos, who he collaborated with for his other hits like "Superstar," "American Terrorist," and "Fighters." I'm thinking this combo is a good one. It has the slower vibe of "Fighters" and some catchiness like "Superstar," but on a different level. There's a lil autotune thrown in there for all you lovers too.

-Leak of Mickey Factz's "Flying Balloons": It's produced by Cookin' Soul and it's the first leaked song from the mixtape they're working on together. I love all the rythmns that are going on in this song and the lyrics are good. Give it a listen/download.

-Laura Izibor's album was released today. I wrote about here earlier and now her album has dropped and she's going on tour with Maxwell. Read more here.

Twitter Fascination

Twitter is so addictive and spreading everywhere. It's even crept into the music world. I just have to laugh at this song, but its lyrics are sooo true. Way to go Mistah F.A.B for describing twitter so well. I hope I hear people singing this so I can continue to smile all day long.

*Addition: My brother commented that Ingrid Michaelson had a twitter song too and she definitely does. Hers is more playful but it's not even one minute long. Enjoy.

Thee Concert and Some Beef

So last night was the big show...and it was great. I arrived late because I had to work so I missed J.Cole, but I was in time for Colin Munroe.  I was pretty disappointed about the whole J.Cole situation because I had just heard of him and liked the song and then some girl told me he rocked it, but a girl's gotta make some money. (sorry for that long sentence. i just like to let things flow)

Colin was pretty good. Not really what the crowd was expecting, but they eventually got into it. He played the drums while standing up, played the keyboard, rapped, sang, his guitarist rocked, and his prerecorded looped stuff was on fiyah!! ha He was pretty energetic, but I don't know if he really fit into the set up. I liked him though...what can I say?..I like the guys that can sing and play the piano. 

Then Wale came on stage after everyone was screaming for him. I think there might have been a good 20 minute break between him and Colin. I don't know if that's right because I was anticipating the whole thing or he was just taking his time. My theory is that he was just trying to come a lil down from the high he was on. 

I believe the first song was Break Down...definitely a good choice since it starts off with "Allow me to introduce me my name is wal-ay don't say wal-eee." There were some people screaming walee in the crowd earlier...seriously, if you're going to go see a guy at least know how to pronounce his name. It's called respect. 

Then he went into "Good Girls." I like this song..i think it's funny. But he said it was to get the ladies in the crowd warmed up and ready for the performance. 

The set list continued on....I don't remember the order but he did w.a.le.d.a.n.c.e, ice cream girl, the artist integrity, nike boots, and more. One of the last songs was his new hit "Chillin." It was evident that a lot of the crowd didn't know a lot of his old stuff....we still got into it...but when Chillin came on, everyone went wild.  He ended with Nike Boots...might have been the crowd favorite. 

On to the Go Go Band....wow, they were great. I came out of the concert wanting more of that. If anyone can suggest more go go music please let me know. He did take the time to give a little tutorial of the history of go go. That was pretty nice. haha

He also graced us with a freestyle ..he said something along the lines of "don't try this at home." Yeah, I won't. Things got a lil harsh. He said muthafucka Charles Hamilton and got on sonic..haha This is where the beef starts. 

I went home and I had to tell Charles. I'm a fan of him too. And this is what went down. Via Twitter.(Twitter is powerful..I had no idea) 

So that's what went down...well all that I really wanted to show you guys. If you follow both of them you can go back and see more. A lot of people got involved. I don't think it was an April Fool's joke though. Who would plan that in their freestyle..c'mon. Yes, they are labelmates, but they're still fighting for a similar audience.  I just think it's funny that I think I might have started it all. ha. I told them both that they should come perform together to prove there's no beef, but that's probably not gonna happen.

it's gonna be a guy fight

so i think i just started a twitter fight between wale and charles hamilton..oops. I sent charles a message and then right after wale was like don't direct message me and now they're goin at it. follow both of them and see. oh the power of twitter.

More New New

Last night I was on a streak of finding new stuff and it continued on today...I love it when that happens. So I'm just going to give you a run through. The first few mostly have a soul vibe to them. I hope this is the future of music because I would be sooo happy.

1. Hal Linton- He's another singer from Barbados. In my opinion more need to come over if they're like him. When he performs he definitely gets into it. He's signed to Universal Motown and you can tell why when you listen to him.I twittered him to see where we can get his music, so I'll let you guys know that if and when he responds. Here's his vibe session.

2. Laura Izibor- She's come from Ireland. Like she said in her vibe session "There are black people in Ireland." She was featured in Vibe's November issue, so we should be hearing more from her. She is yet another singer with a soul vibe...I'm lovin that. She also plays the piano, so another bonus. 

 

3. Noel Gourdin is signed to Epic Records. He is inspired by the oldies. His songs are similar to John Legend, Robin Thicke and D'Angelo, but he didn't has his own flair. Here's his vibe session.  

4. LeVar Thomas. I found him through twitter...it's amazing. I'm not going to tell you a lot

about him right now because he agreed to do an interview, so just look forward to that.

6. "Hey Girl" by Keri Hilson. This song is just ridiculous but of course I like it for some reason. It's definitely any party girl's theme song. click here.
