Song of the Day: " Hoochie Coo"

Rock and Rap/Hip Hop is a beautiful blend for my ears. Jim Jones isn't one of my favorites, but having Mos Def and the Black Keys on this track definitely out way that one negative. Mos Def's voice is on point with this song...it kind of reminds me of the Red Hot Chili Peppers circa 90s. His little "oo oo oos" are delivered with his usual hypnotic smooth warm tone...it's nice. The Black Keys really kill it with the instrumentals and I'm assuming they are the back up vocals.
Give it a listen right here .

The song is part of the Black Keys rap/rock album that's dropping November 27th. The collaborations look amazing and from what I heard, I think it's gonna be a must have. Check out the website to see what is to come from this project. I'm way excited. You can even pre-order it.

Song of the day: "Roses"

This song is off of Mos Def's new album "Ecstatic." If you haven't listened to it yet, you really should because it's really good.
I like this song because I like the piano, Georgia Anne Muldrow's voice, Mos Def's voice, and the bite of the harmony...kinda hard to explain but it's not something you usually hear. It's definitely an old jazzy/blues feel.
I looked into it a little more and it looks like this song originated by Georgia and Mos Def liked it so much that they collaborated and he was able to put it on his cd.

Mos Def Preview

Mos Def's upcoming album "The Ecstatic" is dropping on June 9th, but they have put out a preview of all the tracks. He hasn't had a cd since 2006, so it's about time. I think the preview sounds pretty promising, so I definitely can't wait to hear the complete songs. Click here to check it out.

RS Preview

For those who haven't picked up the newest Rolling Stone, I'm going to enlighten you with a little bit of their previews for this year. They've basically broken down who are dropping albums this year and when. I thought I'd just share with you the ones I'm excited for...not in any particular order
1. Asher Roth 4/20--what a great date for all the stoners. Some people are giving him shit for being a white rapper but he's definitely not another Eminem.
2. Lil Wayne May--I just want to see what this whole rock and roll stint has done for him. Not too excited about the promised auto-tune but there will probably be some entertaining songs.
3. Ben Harper 5/5--more rock and blues...some of best music combinations in my opinion. RS says there's a Stones-y and Beatles style so that can only be good.
4. DMB 6/2--It's been so long so hopefully they will deliver. It will be interesting to see if the dynamic is different since the saxophonist unfortunately died while working on the project.
5. Regina Spektor June--She's a little funky but I like the crazy stories she tells with her songs and that they're heavy on the piano.
6. Mos Def 6/9--I just love him and he's a great lyricist. His last big album was in 1999 so it's about time...can't rush a master. haha
7. Damian Marley and Nas June---what a great combo.
8. Black Eyed Peas 6/9--I'm not a big fan of them but they always have great dance songs. I've read and heard that will.i.am is working hard on this to make it danceable and I trust him.
